Madeira

Madeira, the largest of a group of Portuguese islands in the north Atlantic Ocean consists of two inhabited Islands, Madeira Island and Porto Santo, located 550 miles from mainland.

Madeira is populated by approximately 250,000, with the majority living on the island of Medeira and only around 4,500 living on Porto Santo Island. Direct flights are available from the UK with 3.5 hours flying time to Madeira International Airport located in Santa Cruz, 15 minutes from Funchal, the capital. The main airport on Porto Santo is in the city of Vila Baleira.
 
The region is mountainous and many of the main towns and cities are located around the coastline such as Funchal located on the south coast. Other notable locations are Camera da Lobos, Porto do Moniz and Muchico. Due to it's geographics, some say the region has the most perfect climate in the world, with very pleasent tempretures averaging 26c in summer and 17c in winter. The island offers historical sights alongside the modern tourist activities such as big game fishing, dolphin & whale spotting, surfing and many more.
