Extreme weather conditions can be experienced, with hot summers reaching as high as 45˚c and cold winters down to as low as -15˚c.
Sea coastal areas are spared the changeable weather conditions with temperatures varying -2˚c and 40˚c. Snow is rare and is normally only found in the mountains of the Serra de Estrela.
